Questions and answers

The questions a first visit raises, answered in a few lines each. The short version: a ring shown on a hand, one ring at a time. Not a sizer, not a store.

About the pictures

Which rings can I choose from?

Thirty-five, each named by style and metal, in three rows. Nineteen engagement rings cover round, oval, emerald-cut, pear, marquise and cushion stones, with halo, three-stone and toi et moi settings. Eight women's bands run from a thin plain band to a diamond eternity band, and eight men's bands from a domed gold band to a matte black one.

Why does the saved picture carry a mark?

So the picture still says which style it shows once it leaves the site. The mark is small, sits in one corner, and names the ring style, so a jeweler who is handed the picture knows which style to bring out.

Using the demonstration

How do I move the slider?

On a phone or tablet, put one finger on the gold handle, or anywhere on the picture, and drag sideways. Scrolling up and down still works as usual. With a mouse, click and drag. With a keyboard, press Tab until the slider is focused, then use the left and right arrow keys; Home and End jump to each side.

What does Share this view do?

It copies a link to your clipboard that opens the page with the same hand and the same ring already chosen, on any device. The link holds nothing but the letter of the hand and the name of the ring. If copying is blocked by the browser, the link is shown for you to copy by hand.

What does Save picture give me?

A JPEG file of the hand wearing the chosen ring, at the full size the demonstration uses, with a small mark naming the ring style in one corner. It is the same file for everyone who picks that hand and ring; nothing about you is written into it.

Can I use it on a tablet in a shop?

Yes, and that is one of the uses it was built for. Open a shared link on the tablet and the hand and ring load already set. Nothing is installed and there is no account, so the tablet needs only a browser. The slider works by touch on a counter tablet the same way it does on a phone.

Which hand should I pick?

The one closest to your own skin tone and hand shape. The twelve run from light to deep skin, slim to broad fingers, and younger to older skin, on quiet and busy backgrounds. The same ring on two different hands is a good way to see how much the skin tone changes the look of a metal.

What it does not do

Can I use a photo of my own hand?

Not at the moment. The demonstration runs on example hands only, and nothing is uploaded on this site. The try-on that starts from your own photo is in private testing and has no date; the try-on page describes it and will change when it is ready.

Does it tell me my ring size?

No. A ring shown on a hand, one ring at a time. Not a sizer, not a store. The ring is shown at a size that looks right on that hand; it is not measured, so do not read a band width or a stone size from the picture. A jeweler measures your finger in person.

Can I see two rings at once, or a stack?

One ring at a time, on the ring finger. Stacks, matched sets and a band next to an engagement ring are not part of this version. To compare, switch between rings on the same hand: the hand does not move, so the change is only the ring.

Can I buy a ring here?

Not here, and not through this site. SeeYourRing sells no rings, holds no stock and takes no commission on any sale. The place to buy a ring is a jeweler, and a saved picture of the style is a good thing to bring. Shops can read the For jewelers page.

Does the page set cookies or track me?

No cookies are set and no analytics script runs. The page loads its two typefaces from Google Fonts, and the hosting provider receives the request your browser makes, as any web host does. The privacy page has the full account.

Something missing? The contact page says how to reach the business, and the about page says who runs the site. To go back to the demonstration, open the virtual ring try on.
